Timeline

I guess I owe everyone a few explanations...

First off, this is a really disjointed post. I wanted to have something big and beautifully written to explain the last few months. But it just didn't come. So rather than delay this...I just got it out of my system.

Second, the blog is back. F'real, f'good, 4Life. A quick timeline of how shit went down.

September-
Fatal meltdown at my host. HD eats itself and its children. Seriously, the backup nuked itself as well. Apparently it like literally melted.

October-
I'm told to sit tight and ride it out. Things might be salvageable. Just, yknow, sit tight.

While this happens I become pretty overwhelmed with life and really forget about writing, like, almost at all. I want to be proactive in getting this site working again but discovering a vocation overtakes rebuilding the blog.

Right, did I mention that I've been teaching high school all year? Cuz I have been. More importantly, I love it. I love teaching high school history. It's freaking amazing.

November-
Decide that it's time to leave Kansas. Move to Chicago explored.

December-
Alternate plans explored for move to New Mexico.

January-
Where's the blog? I miss blogging. Look into the whole salvageability thing from back in October. Turns out that a few days after I was told that, it was discovered that there was nothing worth salvaging. No one bothered to tell me. Oops.

Jen looks into finding bits and pieces of the blog cached around the 'net.

February-
Nena gets job in Santa Fe.

March 17-
We pack up half of the house, move Nena to New Mexico. She begins the process of falling completely and totally in love with her new life. She loves her job, she loves being close to her familia. She loves everything except that I'm not there.

From here on out I'm living in an empty house. After a while I give Lobo to my parents to watch. She's just not terribly thrilled at living in a nearly empty house with a nearly totally depressed me. So she goes away.

A few weeks after moving in with my parents Lobo loves her life, loves her new home and has totally forgotten about me.

April-Now
Decide to move blog over to space-pirates and start blogging again.

In this time I also realize how much I loved my life in Kansas. I love teaching, I loved the people I worked with. I really didn't have much in the way of friends, but I had a job that I really liked and people I really liked working with. I don't think there's any way to totally explain how much I loved teaching at this school.

I know that there's no way I was going to keep my job there much beyond the end of this year and I was actually pretty lucky to have gotten the gig in the first place.

School was out the Thursday before Memorial Day so I packed up what was left of my house into another 16' truck and headed west.

Packing the house up was hellacious and the drive was pretty chill.

I arrived in New Mexico and spent the week alternating between Cubero and Santa Fe, loving every minute of it. Then, last Monday I flew back to Lawrence for the night. I had dinner with some peeps and then drove to Chicago on Tuesday morning. There's a few Traveling posts in there somewhere. I just have to figure them out.

So now I'm living with my parents.

I'm unemployed, flat broke and have a house for sale that no one wants to buy.

Did I mention that part? The part where Nena and I are trying to sell the house and no one wants to buy it because it's too colorful? Yeah.

I also have the sneaking suspicion that my Realtor(tm) isn't terribly good at her job. I think realty is her hobby. It's kinda like the time I asked CK and Krew to get me a killer for Screw Your Roommate and they brought me...well, the Angel Cookie recipe she gave my wife years later is wicked tasty.

Anyway, I'm living in Chicago with my parents for the month of June. I'll drive down to Santa Fe after the end of the World Cup. Between now and then, Nena and I have reunion up at Carleton this weekend and then she'll be in Chicago for business. Between those two events she'll be someplace else for business so it makes sense for me to be someplace where the food and cable are free.

I know it sounds like I'm miserable or something. But I'm not. This is perhaps the most exciting time of my life. Seriously. It's like I'm standing on the edge of a really, really big adventure. Now I just need to see where it takes me.

I'm happy that you're happy. And Nena's happy.

Lobo didn't forget you. She just loves your parents because...well...your parents rock.

Nena got married? And she didn't invite me? Is this because I drooled on her frog back in elementary school, or is this because I was one of the brown people that she was sick of seeing around?

nenie said:

heh, you'll have to ask her about that
cuz
ummm
well
we haven't been married long enough to get to the whole "people that have drooled on her frog" conversation

yknow?
